Volkswagen offers Brits up to 9k off a new car in exchange for old diesel motors

VOLKSWAGEN is set to launch a scheme offering Brits up to £9,000 off a new car if they trade in their old diesel motors.

The carmaker has pledged to pay motorists in Germany up to €10,000 (£9,000) to trade in their older diesels for newer, cleaner models.

At a meeting yesterday, heads of the German firm’s brands — which include Audi, Porsche, Skoda and Seat — discussed rolling out the scheme to the UK.

A VW spokesman said: “We are at an early stage at the moment but each Volkswagen Group UK brand will be considering the benefits of such a scheme in the UK.”

BMW announced its own British diesel trade-in scheme on Wednesday, allowing drivers of older models to collect up to £2,000 towards new hybrid or electric cars in its range.

  • HALF of all British drivers will consider buying an electric car next, a survey found.
